Indy Travels & Notre Dame Defeat

Thursday night we traveled down to Indianapolis to visit our friends Justin and Heather and their new baby Lily. We made it in time to see the baby sleeping and have a nice dinner of White Castle (Phil's choice). Friday we hung out with Heather and baby Lily during the day then visited Justin's parents on Friday night. We got to see their horses and baby Lily got to meet them for the first time too.

After a glass of wine and a few beers, we all had enough (especially Justin and Heather with their lack of sleep).

Saturday morning we got up early and drove back up to South Bend to visit our friends Jon and Erin. Phil and Jon went to the MSU vs. Notre Dame (at Notre Dame) college football game while Erin and I met up with some friends at the outlet mall in Michigan City for a full day of shopping.
Sunday we went to Sturgis for Phil to coach his U-14 girls soccer team. They had their first win of the year!!! 6-0, and they played very well.

After that we stopped at my parents house to wish my dad a happy birthday (Happy Birthday Dad!) and of course pick up our little white dog.

Canoe Trip

Saturday after finishing up the corporate olympics, Phil and I went canoeing with my friend from work, Deb, and her boyfriend Mike. We drove to Three Rivers and made our way down the St. Joe river.

The trip took us about 2 hours, but it was very peaceful and so much fun. I'm ready to do it again soon if any one's interested! We saw tons of wildlife, swans, and a turtle up close.

We also were warned not to stop and get out at this spot along the way that looks like a nice camp ground because it was actually some crazy guys yard and he watches it like a hawk… and probably murders canoers who stop there (we're not sure about that one but he did have a spot light up the hill by his house looking straight down on his property… a little scary).

Corporate Cup

Sorry for the delayed weekend update… it's been a busy week.

This past weekend, Calhoun County hosted a corporate olympics that Phil's work participated in. There were tons of events including: swimming, tennis, volleyball, running, biking, tug of war.

Phil was on the volleyball team, that ended up taking first place in the volleyball tournament.

The championship picture will follow shortly.

My dad, mom and myself along with Jon were also recruited to help out. We pretended to work for Calhoun County so that we could participate in some of the events. My dad and I ran in the 5k race along with Phil on Friday night while my mom did the 5k walk.

Saturday morning, Jon ran in the 4x100 relay race and Phil, Jon & I all ran in the 1 mile run. Then Phil and his team finished up their volleyball victory while Jon & I cheered them on and had to pretend to help with the tug of war…which was difficult because neither of us are strong. Later Phil was able to do the tug of war too, but we still lost. Oh well, maybe next year.

Stampin Up Party

Thursday night I hosted a Stampin' Up party at my house for my friends and family. A lady I work with, Jill, was our demonstrator and organizer and she did a great job. We all made 4 different cards and 4 of each card, so sixteen cards total. We ate lots of food, played with babies and dogs (although Jill got spit up on by the baby).
Everyone working diligently.

More Birthday Celebrations

We also celebrated my new mother-in-law's birthday (which is September 1) and my birthday last weekend. Phil's grandparents joined us for a nice bbq at his mom's house where we enjoyed burgers, mashed potatoes, deviled eggs, cake, key lime pie and blue moon ice cream... the works!

It was an awesome celebration.

Birthday Tailgate

This past weekend Grandma & I celebrated our birthday with a spectacular Spartan tailgate. We started festivities around 8:30am and finally made it home at about 6:30pm. A lot of the family joined us and many friends. My uncle even flew in from California to celebrate with Grandma I think... but I'm telling myself it was me too! Grandma turned 83 and I turned 25 this year.

MSU pulled it off, although there were a lot of boos coming from the stadium for a while... we were concerned. I didn't go to the game this week, I sent Jon in my place with Phil and I stayed behind in the shade, with the food and drinks!

The Richland Old Lady & Her Dog Stroller

So Monday night Phil and I were on our way to have dinner with Phil's dad. As we are stopped at a light in Richland, Phil noticed an old lady waiting at the cross walk. Then he noticed that she had a little stroller (like the kind a small child might push around their doll in). Then he looked closer and realized that she had her small, white, fluffy dog in the stroller and was taking the dog for a walk. So of course, I had to take a picture.

It's kind of hard to tell what is in the stroller, but if you look closely, you can see the dogs ears flapping in the wind.

He saw her again last night on his way home from work at the same spot... must be a routine for her.

MSU Tailgate Season Kickoff

Saturday was the kick off of the MSU Spartan college football season and also tailgating! Phil and I buy season tickets, because we are loyal fans and because the whole tailgating/watching the game in person experience is so much fun. This will be our fourth year that we have gotten them.

My aunt and uncle also buy season tickets so we usually tailgate with them before the games. This time, my dad and brother-in-law, Gual joined us too. They did not have tickets but were planning to scalp some at the game. So they went out in search of some tickets and with relative ease were able to buy two tickets. Shortly there after, my sister called and said she had two free tickets from someone that couldn't go to the game, so my dad ended up selling the first tickets that he bought and making $10 on the deal! Not bad.

MSU pulled it off and kicked the crap out of University of Alabama Birmingham (not that I'm gloating because we all know next week could be a different story). And Michigan lost to Appalachian State (a really small school that is basically the equivalent of a really good high school team!). Hahahah. So all in all, it was a good day.
